Hello Lovelies!

While it didn't happen too long ago (smiles), my honey just sent me pics from our engagement. Since I am very private (I know I know) in regard to my personal life I don't really share many photos of him on my blogs. (I do have some posted on http://www.thejourneyofra.blogspot.com/)

I started this shoot believing we were capturing photos for Deborah Estelle. Little did I know he'd set the WHOLE THING UP and was planning to propose. Check out the box in his back pocket. (LOL!) Me? Totally OBLIVIOUS to this fact the whole time.

Ohh! And notice that the Miami skyline from Key Biscayne looks surreal! Gotta love it!

I really think these photos are fab! I'll post throw backs from time to time to recapture a moment lost (wink).

To spend or not to spend? That is the question!

In the world of fashion trends live fast and die hard... It's just the nature of the beast! And so be it! It gives us fashionalities something to write about! I love my job... Yay!

Every now and then a piece is born that sparks a revolution. It sticks around season after season in different colors or variations and is produced for various price points. You'll have your version geared to smaller women... a couple for the larger woman and each designer will do their best to produce it in a fabric that is comparable to the original version... actual quality based on the price the piece will sell for.

Well... I formally present to some of you gals and re-introduce to others' the convertible dress!

MONIF C MARILYN CONVERTIBLE - Miss Monif stepped onto the plus sized market sometime in 2005! Since then her clothing has strutted through NY Fashion Week, been featured in major periodicals, being featured on daytime T.V. segments and gained international retail backing! Dubbed the 'original', the Marilyn convertible (seen in the above two photos) fits chick's size 8-24.This dress has been in her line every season in colors from plum to pool blue (shown in first pic).

*I really like this dress! It's been a lust of mine since it came out! I just haven't been able to justify spending $200 on dress to this point. It's not a matter of if I think it's worth it (I am a cost to value person) it's just with all the responsibilities of life balanced against my current salary... Well it's been on the wish list! I may actually invest in one this winter! The fabric is a nice jersey and has a nice classic matte finish. The colors are always vibrant and fresh! Also there are NO restrictions on this dress so you can style it literally anyway your imagination will allow! * (Price - Short $195; Long $235) www.monifc.com

ELAN - I found this designer on Ebay.

(I believe she has an Etsy shop too!). To the frugal girl this may be more of an option. I'm not very familiar with her line but this version also looks nonrestrictive. Like Monif C she uses beautiful color choices (all her colors are available all year... With Miss Monif they change based on season).

* Based on the pictures, I don't think I like the sheen of this version. It's in a jersey fabric though which is good for draping curves. This is a one size dress. It fits up to a size 16. NADIA - I found this beauty just today! The designer is Nadia and the style called Butterfly. This version also looks limitless. I don't believe there are a lot of color choices in this (I think black is the only other choice) but the brick is BEAUTIFUL! Just lovely!

* This is truly a designer piece. In terms of price point for most couture/ready to wear lines it would be considered affordable. Since you can wear it so many ways, depending on your budget, it may be considered an investment piece. If you have a good imagination you could get your money's worth in no time! MARK - Avon has really come up in the world in terms of style! LOL! *They've been making uber money for quite some time.

* This dress can only be worn three ways. See pic on left. This market is for the younger crowd... Clearly. The shape is more straight cut but it could work for someone. *

AVON - I found a convertible in a very unlikely place today! The color and price caught my attention. It's fab! Their blue is almost the same color as Monif C's Pool Blue listed above.

*I think this could present a challenge fro the fuller busted amongst us! This version doesn't seem to have as much fabric as the Monif C and focuses wrapping with the back out. It's VERY affordable though and the poly/spandex blend mimics jersey material.* (Price $24.99 S-XL. XL is a size 18) www.avon.com

My Experience With SB Shades (A Product Review)

THIS IS WHAT I ACTUALLY RECEIVED FROM THE SITE. Notice the hot glue burns that are visible. My photo wouldn't capture the actual color of the burn (which is like a grayish/ash color). It also wouldn't capture the small cracks near the insertion mark of the spikes or the visible floating strands of hot glue I had to peel off.

Hola my sweets! Today I come with with a Deborah Estelle first... It is a bitter sweet moment... Weep... Sob... Weep... I am doing my first (actual) product review... The bitter? I didn't receive at all what I expected! Let me start off by saying that as a young African American woman (with Panamanian genealogy) I always get excited at the prospect of supporting the businesses of young America. I get doubly excited when the business is Black (or Hispanic) owned/operated as it shows how far we've come as a Nation... and how far various cultures have come as a people. Beautiful! :)

I am equally disappointed, though, when what I receive isn't good quality... ESPECIALLY when the product is hyped up by blog after blog or has celebrity backing. You figure they MUST be good right? Wrong! Please understand that I know even the BEST of designers will have a bad batch or could have an irregular piece that doesn't match the consistent quality of the brand! (I am an aspiring stylist and designer myself so I don't want to judge too harshly! Smiles!)

... But - I don't rock too well I contact a seller (or their customer service) and the contact is returned with little or no communication... and I don't rock well when the quality doesn't, IMO, at all match the site branding or hype! For $80? To some that may not be much, but to a 20 something woman who is only in the process of 'becoming established'... that is a LOT of money! If I pay $35 or $45 for a pair of shades, I don't want them to look like an amateur DIY project or have to doctor them up to make them work...

Fact: I contacted SBSHADES two times after receiving the order to see if there was the possibility of an exchange (I learned after purchase they don't do returns). Here was their response: Crickets... Crickets... Crickets...

Fact: I purchased them through Amazon payments where I learned (AFTER THE PURCHASE WAS COMPLETE) that SBSHADES has almost 90% in negative feedback. Yikes! That is never a good sign... EVER! Even if you have the pickiest of customers! 86% negative feedback means their is a problem with the brand... The thing is when you order from SBSHADES you are directed to Amazon payments so you don't know that until the purchase is over... Where you also learn there is no refund!

Fact: Due to non-communication from the seller I had to file a claim via A-Z claims. (15 days later) So it wasn't that they didn't have time to respond. Glad to say that Amazon handled it through the seller almost immediately... My question... Why did it take all that? I would have gladly done an exchange without a claim... Had Mr. Boi just returned contact!

Fact: I ordered on April 21st 2010 with a supposed shipment date of April 26th 2010... But received them on May 3rd which was 12 days after placing the order. I live only about 530 miles from Baltimore! It's an 8 hour drive and under 3 hour flight... Even by mail carriage, it shouldn't have taken that long!

THE BELOW PICS ARE WHAT I ACTUALLY RECEIVED FROM THE SBSHADES. (Pic upper left: notice the fabric doesn't cover glasses all the way. Pic upper right: notice that the hot glue has peeled to reveal the bottom of the glasses; Pic lower left: A better view of the surge less fabric hot clued on and not even; Pic lower right: Visible hot glue ON TOP OF the fabric on bottom right... This glue is also visible on top of the glasses. )

The good thing is like I said above Amazon resolved the issue... Quickly! That is sometimes the benefit of a seller using a repitible third party vender. Imagine if I had to go directly through the site! I'd be S.O.L!!!

I just think the situation is really sad overall. I am not the type to 'try and get over' but I am HUGE on cost to value ratio... For $80 I don't expect Armani quality but I DO expect to receive shades that are not peeling, bunching or that have miss cut fabric. Sure! I am not Beyonce or GaGa (who it seems Mr. Boi caters too...) but the bulk of any business (after the hype) is going to be the everyday patrons. It's just like using social sites for your core marketing... Without a solid product and good business skills it just won't work! Not in the long term at least!

Mr. Boi is a new designer so maybe he just has to learn by trial and error. I do hope that reviews like this, his feedback scores and his customer service don't kill his business. Hopefully things like this will be used as learning opportunities to better service his customers and to develop a better quality product. In the meantime? I have to find some $@#! hot glue to fix these shades.

Your Deborah Estelle dose of The Fashion Chalet (Interview)

Hello Chickas! I recently had the privilege of doing a phone interview with the doll-like Erika of Fashion Chalet. It was truly a pleasure! Despite her super chic pout, she is quite bubbly. It is always nice to a encounter a fashion blogger who shares more than their clothes... Who isn't afraid to share their ideals or their brain! Miss Erika is super down to earth!

She gave some interesting perspectives on life and love, what has changed in her blogging world since becoming a 'known' blogger and even some relocation advice! ... To think that this all started one day as I logged on to http://thejourneyofra.blogspot.com only to find a lovely comment about my cool big hair! Smiles!

Fun Fact 1: Erika is from Miami! She recently moved to Raleigh NC! Her blog was started in January 2008. She would upload pics that she had on other online networks like Myspace and Flickr. When she realized she loved to write she started to include writing with her pics. She also used to make collages of anything that inspired her. Her blog has now evolved into mainly a picture blog.

Fun Fact 2: She's noticed her style has grown up since 2008. She's learned to play more with basics.

Fun Fact 3: As fashion forward as Miami is and as large as it is, Erika didn't really meet people into fashion blogs until she moved to Raleigh!

DB: WHEN DID YOU FIRST FALL IN LOVE WITH FASHION? Erika: I think at 4 years old because when I was a kid I would ask my mom to go to the store to return what she bought so I could pick out my own! (Laughing) There is actually a funny story that goes with that: Once, I remember throwing a fit over a jean jacket from Bloomingdale's because I KNEW they were coming back in and had to have it. Since it was so expensive, of course she said no! Me: Wow! That is really funny! (Laughing)

DB: WHAT DOES STYLE MEAN TO YOU? Erika: I think style is not following the trends exactly and doing, what do you say? "putting your own spin to things". It's also having the confidence to rock whatever it is. Me: Good answer! I like that!

DB: WHAT EXPERIENCES HAVE INFLUENCED YOUR FASHION TASTE? Erika: Actually blogging! It's caused me to want to try new things... To wear things in different ways. I get to experiment with different looks and to learn from my mistakes.

DB: WHAT MAKES A WOMAN BEAUTIFUL? Erika: I think simply confidence... Someone who has a bubbly personality and is outgoing... Someone who is easy to approach!

DB: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO A WOMAN WITH LOW SELF ESTEEM? Erika: I'd say first to find out what they like about themselves, (maybe it's their eyes, legs or even fingers!), to find what they like about themselves and work around that area. Then to find what they don't like about their bodies and work on it. Maybe sweats don't work on them or maybe they've been wearing a color that washes them out!

DB: WHAT IS LOVE TO YOU? Erika: I think love isn't so much the grand gestures as much as it's remembering the little things like conversation or showing that person you care in things like small thoughtful presents.

DB: WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO IS PURSUING THEIR DREAMS? Erika: If you can imagine it, you can achieve it! I'd also tell them to NEVER give up!

DB: WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHARE ANY RELOCATION ADVICE? Erika: First get a lay of the land... Whether it be learning what the seasons will be like (where you're moving) or learning more about jobs or the job you will take. Ohh! It makes it a lot easier if you have at least one person you know there. It could be a family member or friend; it is good to have someone who can show you around!

*Erika and I also got a chance to talk about the pressures of being a fashion blogger which is interesting given recent talk in the blogosphere. She made some good points about being a fashion blogger. We both agreed that once you have followers there is pressure to "keep up your look". She told me of a comment made by a young lady for F21's blog. The girl (though a little catty) said that "just because you think an outfit is cute on you doesn't make you a fashion blogger"... As a fashion blogger you have to put on a different thinking cap. You have to be creative and think outside the box. I love it! *

The Science Of Sexy (Book Review)

Hola! Chickas... And some chico's! Here is DEB's second book review. Yay! :) I am pleased to bring to you The Science Of Sexy by Bradley Bayou. Though not an instant hit with me like The One Hundred by Nina Garcia, there are a lot of good points to this book that will DEFINITELY help in your styling endeavors. Mr. Bradley Bayou is a couture designer who decided to write a book detailing his secrets to a more proportioned and symmetrically aligned figure.

He has styled everyone from Selma Hayek to Queen Latifah and doesn't focus on size! Notice a recurring theme here? (On Deborah Estelle we are committed to helping every woman look her best regardless of budget, size or race!!!) Mr. Bayou feels that learning your silhouette will help to project a sexier image (more proportioned as our eyes by nature are trained to view things symmetrically correct as beautiful) and help you make the most of your unique and beautiful shape.

The Science starts off by getting your measurements in order to PROPERLY identify your body shape (triangle, rectangle, hourglass, pear, inverted triangle) and then gives you tips on shopping, fabrics and identifies what "look" you are going for. Afterwards you are directed to the chapter in the book designed for your unique shape (and weight) and given basic do's and dont's for that weight/shape combination. Example : A pear shape would focus on clothing that highlighted the smaller their smaller waist while bringing balance to the upper body by using clothing that draws the eye upward.

PROS: Illustrations that help you to VISUALIZE the concept of sexy; tips specific to your own personal body shape; pictures of celebrities he's styled of various shapes and sizes; tips on fabric choices for various body types; tips on how to shop and where to types of stores to shop in depending on what look you are going for; gives you the options to switch the sexy you are going for; works for any woman regardless of height, weight, personal style, age, lifestyle or body shape.

CONS: Too general... (Example - He almost forbids an apple from wearing skinny jeans! I am an apple shape. I understand the theory (as to not make the lower half look even skinnier) but will have to tailor it to my unique shape. (Even more unique than detailed in the book). In many ways my specific body mimics an hourglass figure. My lower half is not significantly smaller than my upper half. What makes me an apple is the weight gain in my bust, stomach and that my shoulders are an inch wider than the rest of my body. My bust and hip measurements are equal. (Similar to an hourglass) and my waist is smaller. Skinny jeans look great on me! LOL! I would just need to balance it out with a fitted wrap top that flares slightly at the waist and some shoes that drew attention to the foot area.) ; Not enough illustrations!!!; You can only use the part of the book for your weight/shape combination.

*Within a day of reading this book, I was able to identify a repeating shopping faux pas and develop a better shopping plan. I was able to go into my closet and IMMEDIATELY identify clothing styles that didn't work for my height, silhouette and weight. Sadly that was over HALF my wardrobe.*

* Within a month of reading this book I was able to totally REVAMP my wardrobe and even was inspired to what colors would look best on me. I realized I am not warm in coloring and that deeper, darker and more cool shades look better on me and am more able to notice right away if something will work for my body shape. *

I would DEFINITELY recommend this book! More so to a novice (or aspiring expert) as opposed to a bona fide fashion expert. There are some good universal tips and beginners textile information that could aid in finding pieces that drape the well.

My belief with style is that no matter who advises you on your "best looks" you still have to put work in yourself. You will still have to try different combinations of clothing and pieces to develop your signature look. I always say that looking good is NOT for the lazy! It often requires a process of trial and error, learning, tweaking and change.

Don't be afraid to go on a style journey for yourself. In the process you may rediscover a part of you that's been buried, get rid of clutter, simplify your beauty routine or your life!

Due to a very nice surprise Bday dinner at my favorite Indian restaurant, my shoot got cut. This is the perfect Sunday afternoon dress. The One Hundred Pieces EVERY Woman Should Own (Book Review)

This is DEB first. Yours truly is doing a book review! Who knew grade school would repeat itself on a style blog? LOL! When I was blogging at wordpress, the opportunity presented itself to do a review there for the UGA press there... While it was never accomplished, (I'll get to it), I am excited about that review as well as Winner's Have Yet To Be Announced is a GREAT book! (Though not fashion related).

The One Hundred by Nina Garcia has got to be the BEST style book I've ever read! Within days of reading, I had an aha moment on revamping my closet and was able to play with animal prints in new ways! The illustrations by Ruben Toledo are beyond inspiring! No matter what your personal style they should spark you to look at pieces in unexpected and fun ways! *And if you are like me, PICTURES, really do help *
It is a very easy read (I was done in two days) and it's filled with fun trivial information about piece origin and Nina's favorite designers. IMO this book is a great add to ANY ONE'S style collection!!!

What I like most about this book is the perfect balance of list worthy specifics and style challenging ambiguity. It's detailed enough to give you some shopping ideas but leaves the reader room enough to research and interpret styles and must own pieces in their own style language and within the guidelines of their own lifestyle. No matter what your budget, size, job title or personal style there are ways to make EACH piece work for you. The One Hundred doesn't insult the intelligence of a style novice but also shouldn't bore the style expert .

Within days of reading this book I was inspired to write a shopping list (both for now and later), look through my closet and figure out if the pieces I already owned were of good quality and reflected well my lifestyle and personal style. THIS is what you want a style book to do.

Hey my fabulous blogger friends! I am really excited about today's post. After researching literally for months, I came across this video from NEEELLA on YouTube.

I was so amped as it is often so hard to find videos/resources that showcase various body types. (Especially the apple shape).

Though in the plus sized fashion world I know their are varying views on "highlighting" a certain feature on your body (or dressing for your shape), I personally, LOVE the concept!

Reason? It takes emphasis off your size and puts it where it belongs on your FABULOUS shape! Yup! We ALL have them! :) This is NOT about size ladies!!! It is about your silhouette.

As a style blogger and aspiring image consultant and stylist, I am very passionate about helping women look in the mirror and LOVE who they see.

My belief is that we all have a measure of beauty and that will a little research we can find out what WE feel is utterly irresistible about our own beauty and WORK (IT) !!! LOL!

My goal is never to make ANY woman feel bad. My goal is always provide a source of inspiration, style tips and ideas that spark you to play with different looks and become a master of YOUR own personal style.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, but I really believe that learning your unique silhouette is half the battle (to looking your best). Knowledge is power and that is NO different in the fashion world! While I am NOT suggesting you get tied down to a certain "look", specific colors, patterns ect... I am saying that knowing the rules (as always) makes you more of an expert in breaking them! Good guidelines on where to start in the world of style can save you countless dollars, time, frustration and tears. Well it could have saved ME that! LOL!

This video (also posted on my home page) is a good illustration of the various body types and the types of clothing that work well for each. It feels good to see a picture (as a mark) on where to start as opposed to countless words... Especially if you have NO idea where to start! I love this video and it will forever be one of my favorites.

Another repeat? Looking good is NOT for the lazy... SO get up! GET out! and get to know your body and have lots of fun in the process! I know I am having fun! :)

I wanted to take a minute to share some outfits I put together. I have always been in love with color and equally in love with nude shades. This black tiered skirt is cute and versitle. Get creative and edgy with tall Converses, HUGE shades, big hair and a bad attitude. (Wink) Go girly with a simple cardi and ballet flats and a white ribbed tank. (Hot pink lipstick applies here!) Go sexy for date night with sky high stillettos and off the shoulder tee. Yup a closet MUST have for spring! (Fall? Pair with fun tights and a white top for some sugar and sass!)

This top I'll be pairing with the above tiered skirt! ... When I buy it that is! lol! Gladiator sandals and off for a day with my hubby to be at the Smithsonian Museums, some ice cream and a smile. Ohh! Big shade apply here too! LOL! Try with fitted black jeans for a bit of funk/edge or a white suit to add a bit of pop to an otherwise conservative suit. Don't forget the red lips girlz! *If you do with a white suit be sure to keep everything else besides the lips mute... Let's not do too much!*

Okay! You know what? I HAVE to have this bubble dress! I know! I know! It's been reviewed on like up-teenth blogs but for good reason! This chicky is bad! The possiblities are endless! ENDLESS I say! Wear straight off the rack with belt attached, some big hoops, a pulled back ponytail and some cute black heeled sandals. Where? Anywhere! Go edgy with tall gladitor sandals in black, a long statement necklace and a cute short sleeved jacket. (Color? Your choice) Be sure to pump the gloss here go smokey for extra affect. Your girlz or your boy will think you run this town! Lazy Sunday? Pair with nude brown sandals and do a nude belt to match. Party girl? Let the dress speak for itself... Do it with no belt or a muted black belt, stilletto heels and a cute updo! So many options! So little time! Ugghhh! Gotta move...

I really like this dress too! All black everything! LOL! I love this dress for weddings, parties and church. Cute! Your choice - ballet flats, stillettos, heeled sandals or flat ones! This dress can be played up with 1 really cute statement piece (a bracelet, dangle earrings or a necklace - DON'T OVER DO IT!!!!) and do your hair/makeup according to your mood. For me it's a look. Do this dress justice!

Be a bad chick if you dare too! I LOVE this dress! Super hott for date night or a night out with friends. I've seen this dress rocked different ways but I'd either do it with a sassy top piece (jacket, cardi, blazer) or ala carte with a huge curly afro some nude gladiator heeled sandals , gold hoop earrings and a sassy gold bracelet. The contrast of neutral shades would rock! It looks a little tough, a little edgy and hecka sexy! Betta tell that boy if he likes it he'd betta put a ring on it!

Here is another rouched option for the more conservative fly chick! It comes with a bolero jacket to cover a bit more. (Also good for the chesty ladies! Where are my apples? Your bra won't show!) Follow style tips from above or pair with some simple black pumps a skinny black belt and a slick ponytail for a look that is conservative, sleek and chic!

I love this dress as an easy go to piece. No matter what your style this should be easy to rock! Again, I personally, like the pairing of neutrals or nudes with muted colors but this could also be worn with a basic black cardigan, a demim jacket or a light leather if your feeling a little daring. This dress would be PEFECT to travel in (road trip anyone?) Girly and cute yet you won't have to work hard! I would wear it on a plane, for a beach day or just when I'm running errands around town. I love this dress!

Speaking of cardigans... I think I'm drawn to this piece because it is unique. I'd wear it open with a white tee or tank or belted with a tulle skirt. I actually have a tulle dress that would be perfect with this piece. I would probably go a size up for a more boyfriend look but if you are chesty (like me) be careful to balance it out with a fuller bottom or you will look like a an inverted triangle! Literally! Try it with a skinny belt or with a elastic headband (large) to give the appearance of a waist. I'd also throw this on with skinny jeans and flat sandals. This is a good piece for the weekend!

Insert story: So in an attempt to wear this outfit exactly like I saw it in my head... I researched and found a pair of Ella's via eBay. They were in good used condition and starting bid was $9.99. Well I am the sniper bidder. The bidder you guys love to hate... Hehehe... The one who with strategic planning gets the item you'd been looking at for days with patience and skill... Well someone OUTBID me! LOL! Within the last 30 seconds... Uggghhh! Those babies sold with shipping for $40 and I missed it by a mere $1... Yup! $1!!!

Well my Grandmother has come to my rescue! Yay! With my Bday in two weeks... We did a little research and found these dolls on http://www.endless.com/ and http://www.6pm.com/ for a FRACTION of the cost! :) Ahhh! I love opening packages... I will have a color surprise... Who cares? They'll wear well with anything! Free at last... Free at last... Thank G-D almighty... Ohh wait!?! Sorry... Snap back Ra, snap back! LOL!

I consider myself to be a "queen of all things" and DEFINITELY a queen of research. I love going online and exploring business ideas, concepts and fashion products. In my hunt for the perfect wrap dresses, I came across this baby... Thought I should share.

Found it online via eBay from a UK retailer. (Contact me for more info!) Waiting for the package to come in the mail but when it does, I'll be SURE to post pics!

The slightly tuliped bottom works GREAT for apple shapes (as it gives the appearance of fuller hips) and the belt so close under the bust line highlights the smallest part of the waist. The v-neck makes highlights the bust line and allows the bust to look less full. The elbow length covers the fullest part of the arm and the length (below the knee) makes this dress work and play appropriate.

I can't wait to style this baby! It would be fun with a dramatic statement necklace that v's either right above the neckline or a long multi strand necklace that falls at the belt of navel. Paired with some fabulous Ella pour la victoire sandals and a bone cuff bracelet you'd be the talk of the town whether small or large.

* For me a look is all about the total package. With an edgy bob or pulled back bun with swoop bang this would be instant chic. I love red lips or nude shiny gloss and bug shades give cool points to any fashionista wardrobe. *

I love dresses! I REALLY love dresses! They have a way of making you feel sexy, polished and pulled even on your worst day. They have a way of making even the most tomboy of us all feel dainty, lady like or really vampy. They can highlight the sillouette of our lovely lady lumps in a way that denim never could. For my shape (apple) I love the use of dresses in my wardrobe. I have a bunch! I use them for work (employed at a conservative insurance company) and play (where ever my full life may take me!). As part of my journey, I decided to write about things, people and causes important to me. This past Sunday my church was blessed to have the "mission field come to us" and with the presence of little angels. They are the Children of the World International Children's Choir. I cried the whole 10am service. In a time where we are desensitized by so much excess it is hard to believe that many are dying just from not having clean drinking water. They are part of the World Help organization and if you want to help sponsor a child call 1-800-541-6691. I am sure we all have our own problems but if these children can praise God with a smile on their faces through all they've been through, surely we can reach out to help! * This post is not to minimize the real need for change in our own country. We know there are many starving children who may live right next door to us and many Americans without health care right now. But
Some HARD facts:

29,000 children die everyday from water related illness.
$15 is enough to give one person in an improvised place water for 20 years!
For $30 a month you can sponsor a child in desperate need of your help with food, clothing and shelter.
Many of us in America use more water in 1 toilet flush than many in other countries use in a whole day.
These children (in the choir) all lived in and were dying from poor conditions and lack of clean water. They've all now been taken into refuge and joyfully travel to tell their story. (I had the privilege to interact with them unforced!!! My friend hosted a couple of children and they were so full of life and joy!)

I got the idea to write this post after reading some posts from several fatshion blogs I follow and just from what seems to be the new thing in highlighing plus sized fashion. I did a google search of 'big', 'pudgy', 'fat'... and these images are what I came up with. Either listed DIRECTLY under these terms or the name of the picture. (For Miss Piggy I just added her).

Various cultures, age groups, genres, races and countries define being "big" or "fat" in different ways. For some it could represent being womanly, sexy, beautiful and for others it represents a really shameful and ugly thing. It's amazing how when we deal with the subject (in images) of someone being either "fat" or "big" we either hyper sexualize or make a really "ugly" dispicable thing. Hmmmm.... I couldn't put up a lot of the images I found as I felt they'd compromise the integrity of this blog... Do a search yourself. May get you thinking! And us talking! Let me know what you think!

One BAD Apple!

Ladies! (And my gents!) I know it's been a while! I thought I'd start doing more posts of my actual style and more posts showcasing things that look good on an apple shape. Man! We get a bad rap! I've been searching for months for sites with good fashion tips for apple shaped women and though I've found a handful of good resources I find it disheartening that tips and actual photos seem so limited!

To me size isn't the problem! A woman can look good at ANY size... She also can look good with any silhouette. You've just got to learn what works for your body type and highlight your best features! In NO WAY am I suggesting you should hide any of yourself but I do feel that whatever features you LOVE you should highlight.

Anyway, in addition to the regular DB features, I hope to do more product reviews, style tips, interviews and just random thoughts. That is what makes this blog unique. It's geared for fashionable women period. Race... Size... Budget... Not a concern! I feel EVERYONE can live their best life!

It's been a while I know! Sister girl has been sitting in the cut, living, learning, loving and re-evaluating!

Have you been reading the news lately? Seems there is always a rumored story of sex, love, lust, power and intrigue! From Tiger Woods and his 'jump offs' to Morgan Freeman and his... gulp... step-grandaughter (yuck!) to Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade, to Alicia Keys and Swizz Beats and did you hear about Charles Phillips the Oracle Software president and President Obama advisor and his spurned lover Yavaughnie Wilkins? http://www.charlesphillipsandyavaughniewilkins.com/). This chick got gangsta on my man and took out THREE billboard ads in cities he frequents to get back at him after he dumped her. (Mr. Phillips was with her for almost 9 years! 9 years ya'll!)

Who is this woman who sometimes seems to come out of nowhere, with spunk or with gentleness, big eyes and a smile - who sweeps your man off his feet and into her bed and sometimes into his heart! Her power so strong that there are times he marries her! She is the mistress!

She is the woman who you shake your head at, the one you and your girlfriends swear to NEVER be, the woman whom you call everything but a nice name! She is the woman who's beauty is so intoxicating that you, a straight woman, would consider an affair with her or whose outer appearance is so plain that you wonder 'what the $#@! Did he see in her?' when he had you at home! She seems to possess something... that "it" factor that can make a man who's publically professed his love for you before God and man (or on Facebook) turn his attention and affection in a TOTALLY new direction.

You have been programmed to hate her... To believe that she is an evil and immoral seductress who's only mission in life is to lie in wait... For your man! You've been taught to believe that if it weren't for these home wrecking harlots; if it weren't for her, life at home would be just fine. But would it?

It is easy to blame the mistress. In our own fear (of our man possibly being her next target) or because of our own anger (if it's happened to us), to believe that this pain is solely her fault is somehow comforting. It allows us to a warped sense of security that in NO WAY protects or strengthens our relationships.

We try to convince our men that no moral women would a mistress and since he has morals he should avoid her at all costs. We bad mouth her profusely in an attempt to make our contempt for her become his contempt towards any woman who could possibly become her.

In our efforts to ridicule her, I wonder how many of us have asked "what can I learn from her?" Have you ever asked what qualities she may possess that could make a man creep on birthdays and holidays (big days he should be spending with you) even if it costs him EVERYTHING??????

In NO WAY am I condoning infidelity...? In NO WAY am I saying if someone strays that the fault is yours! I'm just asking what is more important, saving your relationship or hating the mistress?

I say anyone can be a teacher if we are humble enough to learn. Sometimes the worst pain of our lives can position us for the greatest pleasures and blessings!

No one knows the future so it's possible even if we feel we've done everything "right" for there to be things that go, in our eyes, very wrong. Don't focus on that! Be free to give! Free to live! Free to love and in time love will be attracted to you... Sometimes when and where you least expect it and you don't have to be the mistress!

The Mistress:

Confident: She is sure in her own abilities, skills, beauty or personality. She doesn't look for the approval of others because she KNOWS within herself she is already approved of... By her! Confidence is centered for different people in different places but the point? She has it!

Independent: She knows what she wants and has the ability to take care of business. She doesn't wait around for people to do things for her she knows she is capable of doing things herself.

Talented/Driven: She has gifts and talents and USES them. Men are attracted to women who have a life! She knows what she wants in life and actively works to achieve these things. It really doesn't matter what the talent is she is using what she has to her advantage.

Insightful: She has taken time to learn about her world and the things/people around her. When he talks about various subjects, because she's done her research she has something meaningful to add to the table. She knows her opinions matter.

Compassionate and Kind: Is she a pushover? Most likely not but she is still kind and compassionate to the people around her. (You are saying no right... I mean she's with your man?) But in his eyes he sees how she cares for the people in her circle and extends beyond herself and this is always attractive.

Genuine love for life: Though she is able to state what she wants and doesn't want, she is also genuinely in love with life! She is a joy to be around because she radiates the love she has for life!

Creative and Imaginative: She is creative (sometimes spontaneous) and imaginative. She can take a bad situation and find some good in it or make a blah trip glow because she finds ways to MAKE it fun.

Strong: She has a strength that allows her to hold her own. It doesn't mean she is overbearing or bossy! She is just

Fun: She is just plain fun! It feels good for a man to be around her because she has a sparkle in her eye or likes to play games, dance, and let down her hair when other women are too concerned with how they may look to others to just live!

Beautiful: Beauty is really in the eye of the beholder but somehow this woman's traits in some combination equal beauty to a man. She may just be very physically attractive (or good at keeping herself up) or she may radiate a beauty from inside because she is truly okay with herself.

Sexy: This too happens when a woman is okay with herself. Again this could have to do with outward appearance but more often than not, sexiness starts within. It radiates from a woman secure in her skin and with herself and committed to being the best she can be. Period!

Energetic: Everyone doesn't like a lot of energy but she has some! Perhaps she doesn't deny him sex or is adventurous in trying new things.

Has her own life: Why do we feel when we are in monogamous relationships we have to give up everything else we held dear to us? Does motherhood mean no more dreaming? Does marriage mean no more goals? Sure we may shift some priorities but a woman who has something else going on to him is extremely attractive!

Giving: She gives of herself (no pun intended) and of her time... If to no one else to him! And he values that!

Funny (Laughs easily): She has a sense of humor and laughs easily. She doesn't have to be coerced or forced. Her innate love for life causes her outward smile to beam things he wants to figure out.

Supportive: She isn't quick to squash his dreams or ideas. She listens and comforts him. When he has a bad day she finds ways to make it better instead of throwing things at him as soon as he walks in the door.

Happy with her life: Most often, she is not miserable. I put it in these terms as this, I'm sure could be argued. What woman okay with her would talk to another's man right? But the truth is that she is at least okay with how things are going for her. She isn't always carrying the stresses of the world (or her family and friends) and isn't always talking about how miserable she is and what she wants to change.

Intriguing and mysterious: She maintains some type of mystery. Why do they need to know everything? We don't always have to be so predictable. Do something unexpected sometimes. As soon as a person thinks they have you all figured out, they'll get bored and look for some type of excitement... Elsewhere!

Makes your man feel like a man: To me, this is the most important! She makes a man feel like a man! She states her opinions, sure! But she does it in a way that shows respect for him. She knows what she wants and is independent but still allows him to be a man. She doesn't throw in his face that she doesn't need him (or could do just fine without him) and even strokes his ego at times... Really that's okay!

Hi Guys!

I keep forgetting to upload the pics to show my hair transition but I will soon! Promise! In the mean time I will share a little of what the Lord is doing in my life.

I have learned to be more of a private person and guard the things that are important to me... The people that are important to me... Not out of shame but for the protection of the things I consider of value. Unfortunetly, everyone won't be happy for your success... Not everyone can rejoice in your blessings! Not everyone is at a maturity level to accept the things God is doing. Sometimes it's out of fear (in their own lives'), sometimes out of jelousy and sometimes if people don't feel good in their own lives' they wish for you to feel the same...

Having said that I will share... Just a bit about this wonderful gentleman. This being so new and me just trying to stay grounded and in God's face even the more I just want to encourage ALL sisters that there are men, good men, Godly men that will treat you with dignity and respect... For your body... For your mind... For your heart... and who will say what they mean and mean what they say...

They will take their time, even to your frustration, and NOT MAKE A MOVE until they are sure they have approval from the Lord. They will examine your character and that of themselves and make sure things in their lives' are in order before involving someone else.

God is amazing! Is all I can say... His mercy truly endureth forever and His grace is beyond awesome! Even in the midst of ourselves'; He can take two imperfect people and begin to build something wonderful. Yay God!

So I went to Miami this weekend to visit my good friend and now significant other Mr. Jah Dawes... As his name emplies, he is certainly one whom the Lord leads and is humble and pliable... What more could a girl ask?

The time was fun... cool... relaxed and for the first time we got to have some really good/honest focused conversation without reserve... Good stuff! While I can't share what was shared privately, I can say that having someone whom you can be completely honest with is great! It takes away the air of falsehood and rids you of the masks we so often wear... God is good!

While I am sad I had to come back home... (Raleigh)... I am glad to have someone to visit in such a beautiful state, Florida, and to have someone whom is just as focused on his dreams/goals.

As we go forward, I am looking forward to humilty... To grace... Honesty... Prayer... Understanding and growth... I am looking forward to God being God! He is amazing! Ohhh.... But I said that already! LOL!

Times past were just a preparation for today... And today is preparation for tomorrow... Prayerfully a long tomorrow!

Hey guys! So I'm going to do something different today. As some of you may know I am a writer in many forms of the word. Since this is a style blog, I usually save my poetic aspirations for my other blog

What Makes Me Happy

So today feels surreal and beautiful. Sexy even... I have the biggest smile on my face.

Thoughts... Some that I won't share but I'll just say sometimes it feels good just to LIVE... Actually

In addition a friend I've not seen in about a year will be visiting this weekend and I get to visit a

friend whom I haven't seen since March... Very excited!

I'm sitting here listening to Bob Marley's Wait In Vain and am reminded of my childhood in Brooklyn.

I feel an unexpected surge of hope and very inspired. Like thre is a chance for renewed opportunity

There is such an influx of media, fashion and style writers. Me? A little late in the game. I've had the idea to do it AGES ago but let silly life things stop me. I started http://www.deborahestelle.com/ years ago and had a pretty large following pretty early on and built up networking and offers including an eZine and a book review. Hmmmm.... Then I stopped. Not because I didn't love it but because I was so ill prepared.

Blogger.com is different. There are SO many good writers and SO many reputable fashion blogs. Alas! I'm less concerned about the competition and most concerned with finding a way to keep my content different and fresh.

Don't you get tired of reading the same posts from 12 of your favorite bloggers?

I've always loved European fashion. United Kingdom to be exact. They are the leaders in edgy street fashion and have been forever. Once I discovered the Internet, I KNEW one day I would be researching, buying and distributing the gems of a land far away for a living. I'm still working on it!

I must admit I am a little selfish with my jewels. I don't like sharing all the beans. You put your knowledge on the web for all to see and before you know it, it is now every body's story and you get no credit.

Wishing On A Star

This morning I woke up really early to try to catch a glimpse of the orionid meteor shower...

My first attempt was at 4:50am. I woke up, put on some clothes and ran outside. While I didn't

catch any meteors what I saw was breath taking! Wow! The sky was so crisp and clear and I saw

an arrangement of stars including Orin's Belt. Several stars were glistening and I knew there was

definetly a God out there bigger than me. Okay... Back to bed.

I read on Yahoo that the shower would peak about 6:00am pacific time so I woke up again at

5:50am and ran outside. To my pleasant surprise I actually saw some meteors passing!

Where I live, in the heart of the city, it wasn't very easy to see. I only saw about 10 and had to

keep my eyes fixated on the sky so I didn't miss them... But, just to catch that glimpse made it

so worth it. I was like a little child... Laughing and jumping around. (My neighbors probably thought I was crazy!)

I wish I could have taken pictures or recorded it... One it was PITCH black and I know this is

not Heaven so I made it quick... I really didn't want to be another case of a PYT whom had

vanished without a trace. Also my batteries are dead so I would have missed it messing around

with the camera.

For a second I wondered how one could view such greatness and not believe in God... I also

wondered whom, besides us, is out there? I hope I get an opporunity to witness something like

that again but if I don't it was worth the view!

HOW TO FLATTER YOUR FIGURE - BODY SHAPES

As a personal stylist & image consultant it is very important to me for women to learn how to dress in ways that flatter the body they have. IMO women spend far too much time comparing ourselves to other fabulous women with the time we should be spending BEING fabulous ourselves.

Yes! EVERY woman can be fabulous and while natural beauty and size are factors in your look, you'd be surprised how much you can bring out just by knowing the types of pieces work for your body SHAPE (not size!!!!), your personal style and a few simple tips/tricks and a few beauty tips/tricks that bring out the best of you.

Here are some short videos on how to accent you body shape. I'll post my own tips under each video. Enjoy after the jump!

DRESSING FOR AN HOURGLASS FIGURE

How To Dress an Hourglass Figure on Howcast

These are good basic steps but as always you can modify what you do.

-If you are conservative a better alternative to clingy fabrics would be figure drapping fabrics. Items that skim the body (but don't cling) are also more appropriate for corporate settings.

- An hourglass could also do a looser style top with a pencil skirt, just make sure the waist is cinched in and accented.

- NEVER DO SHORT, TIGHT AND LOW CLEVAGE... You'll come off looking cheap or like a lady of the night.

How To Dress If You Have a Pear-Shaped Body on Howcast

- I prefer a tailored pant on a pear shaped woman (with flare) or a higher cut pant (like sailor). Boot cut are okay but if they are too tight they still make a pear shape look very hippy.

- A line skirts work on this body shape. (They work on almost any body shape!) Stick to more fitted tops and a structured sweater or jacket for balance.

-You could also try a dress or top with fuller sleeves as long as the waist is cinched and the bottom hugs the waist and skims the hips and has flare.

- AVOID pockets on the sides of pants! Flat front are best or get the pockets sewn shut! (Apple also!!!)

How To Dress If You're Apple-Shaped on Howcast

This video is my favorite possibly because I have a natural tendency towards an apply middle. I felt for the difficulty of this shape, (try topping it off with being top heavy!) the howcast video maker was great at getting it right... BUT!

- In the video they recommend low waisted skirts which are a NO NO!!! It will sit under your tummy and not be flattering... at all! Based on the advise of cutting the tummy in half I think they meant mid-waist skirts/pants! Perfect!

- Vnecks are great options though a deep V is not necessary. You could try putting a cami or tank underneath this cut.

- If you are a full busted apple, try necklines like sweetheart and square also. Dresses and no button tops work best if you are an a busty apple.

- Add a belt to the sheath dress (under the bust line or smallest part of your waist) and get them in fabrics with stretch cotton/spandex. They are more forgiving!

- Also if you are busty period, ESPECIALLY APPLE, don't buy double breasted jackets. Cute but not figure flattering.

- I disagree with buying coats that hit at your finger tips. I fancy 3/4 length sleevs (especially when younger) or jackets/coats that hit right at the wrist. A coat hitting your fingertips are going to swallow you up!

- Waist length jackets/coats are best. If you are short and getting a longer coat, don't go past knee length.

- As for belts on pants, you can do them as long as the belts are not low waisted. Again, pants that hit mid-waist are most flattering.

- Pencil skirts work here... They should be mid-waist height and structured.

How To Prevent Shiny Skin on Howcast

I saw this post of http://www.fashionwithfifi.com/ and though I hate to bite, I thought it would be fitting to add. 1st off I have oily skin and have been trying to figure out for the LIFE of me to to get rid of it or at least maintain it. Aslo, it seems that the further in my 20's I go (I'm about mid point now) my skin actually is getting oilier. Yuck!

Cool Fact - In the long run oily skin may actually be a blessing! You see? Those with oily skin, over time, actually show less wrinkles and have more plump, younger looking skin.

Misconception - Many people believe that oily skin doesn't need moisturizers. WRONG! There is a difference between oil and moisture. All skin needs moisture. I recommend, in addition to an oil free moisturizer (lotion - NOT CREAM OR OIL!!!) using just a small amount at night while your face is still damp and skipping in the morning. This is working better for me! If you prefer to moisturize in the AM, try following the above step but let your moisturizer dry completely before adding makeup.

Extra Bit- A cool way to dry makeup or moisturizer is to put your blow dryer setting on low and cool and hold the dryer about 12-24 inches from your face and rotate until makeup or moisturizer is dry.

I got so excited with the THOUGHT of writing this post that I almost didn't know where to begin. The well being of women has always been in the fore front of my mind and not only how well she's dressed.

Most financial experts will tell you that budgets don't work. In my experience I've found this to be true... Just like diets! The key to staying in good health (financially and other) is to honestly assess your situation and make realistic changes that you continue over a long period of time. If not the tendency is to fall back (usually quickly) into old unproductive and unhealthy patterns.

Now... I'm not opposed to detoxes as I feel they, if nothing else, focus your mind on moving in another direction. They should only be used as jumpstarters though!

How does a girl stay fly, fund her 401K account and save for a rainy day? She gets resourceful! Utilizing available resources is one of the most effect ways to improve your life. It usually only takes a willingness to research the possibilities and take action to make them work for you.

I've compiled a list of what I feel are cool ways to stay hip and still have a happening bank account! Sure, it takes work on your part but a lot of small changes add up to be big changes over time!

TRY CLOTHING SWAPS - This idea is rather new but it's something that girlfriends have been doing forever! Have a party with your dearest friends, coworkers and associates and trade clothing for an instant wardrobe update without spending anything! Try http://www.clothingswap.com/ for ways to keep these events fun and creative! There should be rules so it doesn't turn into an unorganized cat brawl!

GET IT FOR FREE! - Yes love! I said free. Though not necessarily popular with the masses the smart and savvy take advantage of free stuff! There are a growing number of URL's dedicated to helping people find things for free. Try http://www.freecycle.com/ ; http://www.craigslist.com/ (under free stuff). You would be surpised how many people give away things simply because they don't want the hassle of selling them or simply can't use them. Sometimes with minor elbow grease (like a trip to the cleaners) or a small amount of money (like a trip to the tailor) you can restore pieces back to like new condition. I've found new lipstick (because someone bought the wrong color), old fashion magazines and more just from putting in want ads or searching giving ads!

HEY PRETTY! GET THRIFTY! - Items at thrift and consignment shops or are often severely discounted in terms of true value. Clothing depreciates so you could end up with a $400 coat for $65 dollars. My only advice is to choose wisely and only buy things you have a real use for. I know people who get sucked into buying dated pieces with no real "vintage" quality just because the designer is Harve Bernard. Get pieces that fit your personal style and lifestyle and if you KNOW you're not going to do the work to make something wearable (replacing buttons ect) DON'T buy it! While a stylist may seem like an expensive add to a post about saving money, in the long run you could save hundreds or thousands of dollars! Did you know that most women only wear about 20% of their wardrobe? Yikes! So 80% of the money you've spent is hanging perpetually on plastic hangers. A stylist can help you to look at your clothing in different ways or merge together seamlessly the many facets of your life. Maybe you don't really NEED a new wardrobe.

TAKE CARE OF YOUR THINGS - Nothing wastes money like having to re buy the same pieces over and over. You won't have to get a new black blazer next season if you take care of the one you already have. Adhere to washing instructions (dry clean only usually means to dry clean only!) and while you don't have to go super expensive use detergents and cleansers that are mild on your clothing. Life is a balancing act and so is being a pocket protecting style guru. It's okay to want to be the baddest biatch on the block but not at the expense of an empty bank account, a life without retirement or a credit score of 380! Yuck!

I wrote an entry for a contest I entered over at http://www.fashionwithfifi.com/ (contest) and felt it is really reflective of the woman I am trying to become.

There is no reason we as woman can't be beautiful, kind, loving, assertive, dainty and FIERCE all at the same time.

Illamasqua Lipstick In Growl

Though this Monday morning started out a little drab (I overslept thus running late and doing my makeup at work, had to buy breakfast when I spent $10 on breakfast food at the grocer last night AND don't get to work in my office today) I got REALLY excited when I thought of the possibility of winning a tube of Illamasqua lipstick in Growl. Can we say hott stuff???

Imagine my excitement when I learned that yours truly actually DID win! Yay!

I have been looking for a really intense red for a while (I LOVE red!!!) and I'm looking forward to trying different looks with this color for Fall!

Transformation

Anywhooo as I was telling Jah yesterday both the joy and confusion I feel about the decision. On the one hand though I consider myself natural the amount of processing I've done to my hair is bitter sweet. It's been colored (multiple times and shades), straighted, blow dried (often) so I can walk out the door with the instant effect of the big 'fro. Did I mention the Vigoro I put in last November? (Think old school beauty supply wash in texturizer!) Yikes!

I'd been thinking for a while that I should just chop and start over. For me it isn't a "big" chop because I have quite a bit of hair that isn't processed (past ear length). But being the fashion savvy chick I am the thought of "plain" hair with no color or funky cut makes me sad. I know natural hair is versatile but I'm more into edgy high fashion looks and like to do things like go white blond for shock value...

Besides the fact that I jacked it up! (Longer front/short middle/longer back) - THIS IS WHY I'M ENROLLED IN COSMETOLOGY SCHOOL! - I think I'm glad about the decision. The color is almost gone and now I can get to know my REAL hair all over again and watch it grow to it's full fro glory!

Speaking of short hair (mine isn't as short) none other than the fabulous Solange Knowles came to mind. She has made short natural hair look stylish, edgy and feminine! Go girl! Then I checked out my girl Tiffany at http://ebonyintuition.blogspot.com/ and saw some pic's of Solo living out the tips I'll post in print!

Remember ladies change is good! And even if you try something and it doesn't come out the way you'd expected, use it to your advantage! Maybe it was a mistake but maybe with a little creative effort you can revamp your whole style... Even if just for a short time.
HERE are my tips for shorter crops. (Pun intended!)

EYE ENCORE - Whether you decide to go dramatic with lashes and stand out shadows, classic with complexion compatible shadow or sultry with smokey eyes make those peepers pop!

HIGH CHEEK STREET - This is also a good time to play up your cheekbones. Now that you have shorter hair more attention will be drawn to your facial features. This is a good time to try blush (if you've never worn it) or try different shades. Don't be scared!

GET LIPPY! Try a bold lip stick or gloss on your lips. Think fun, flirty or sexy! Yay!

DRESS TO IMPRESS - Never let them forget you're better than the rest! You are woman! Hear you roar! Dresses are never out of style. Rock styles you've been dying to try or stick to your old trusties. A figure flattering dress is a reminder you're a girl!

BE BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL - Jewelry like statement necklaces, cocktail rings or pretty bracelets add some spunk on your top half (where attention will be drawn). Go for it!

BALANCE IT OUT - Since your cut may be a shocker to many around you (especially if you normally have long hair) be sure to keep your top and bottom half balanced. You should do that anyway but this is especially true if you have short hair. Otherwise you look really awkward.

REVAMP. RESTYLE. RELEASE. - Celebrities are known for changing up their looks and we can do it too! Once you get that hair cut, figure out how the rest of your look can complement it. It may be your change to get more edgy or to change from chick next door to short savvy vixen. The possibilities are endless. You've gone this far... Go all the way!

The main thing to remember is to keep your feminine. For some reason it seems that when women go short many tend to forgo this! Instead of looking hot and fashion forward, they take on a frumpy or boyish look. Just because your crown isn't flowing doesn't mean you aren't a hottie! Keep on pampering yourself! Have fun and love your new look. If you seem to hate it others around you will too!

If all else fails this is a GREAT time to try a wig or hair extensions until your hair grows long enough to get a new style!

Down 20 pounds... Was down 25 but our weight can fluctuate... I'll be posting pics soon!

I didn't really do "before" shots so since I have between 30-50 pounds to go with some toning I will use my current weight as before weight...

Hey Chicky's!

This is how my hair looked before I cut it all off... I'll post an after pic soon!

Hair is the story... Been "natural" for almost 12 years. I have put color in it I don't know how many times! (Debating my new views on it!) It has been mostly caramel brown (warm and cool) and I've gotten platnium blond and warm blond streaks.

I think my ideal color is like a pretty warm alburn brown (the color really brings out my face and eyes) but I haven't found a perfect match (even going to salons) in a LONG time.

Only once did I achieve that color and it was with a rinse. Pretty! In November 2008 I decided to put a Vigaro in my hair! Yikes! It is a mild texturizer. Not only did it stink to high hell but it damaged my hair so badly and relaxed my pretty tight curls into waves. It was really cute for about 3 weeks and then I couldn't even run my fingers through my hair.

I cut most of the "damage" out as it was located on the ends. The color was the main problem though. No matter how many times I tried to go darker (deeper really) I ended up with a orange like tint.

Pic # 1- This is classic Ra hair! LOL! Most days this is what I rocked. The curly fro. I actually really like this look. I felt beautiful, powerful and confident!

Pic #2 - My first ever twist out! I LOVED it. It retained length gave it a curly wave texture and was easy to maintain. It lasted about two weeks. I played with different styles.

Pic #3 - My hair straightened with a flat iron and blow dryer. The ends were dry but I liked the look. You can see the multicolored look from the pic.

PICTURE THREE IS THE MOST RECENT. THE OTHER TWO ARE NON TEXURIZED. THOUGH YOU CAN'T TELL IN PICTURE 1 BECAUSE IT IS STRAIGHTENED.

Short Hair Transformation

It's amazing how different we can look just by making small changes. Yesterday in a moment of angst I decided to chop my hair.... Yes! I know!About 70% of my beautiful curly locks are gone... Tushe Tushe!

Yesterday I had a very enlightening conversation with my mentor and good friend Tisha.

It was about life, mine in particular, and how to move from where I am to where I'd like to be.

Going through my mind are all the promises that have been spoken over me and all the

confirmation I've gotten that I'm not crazy but (in Tisha's words) brilliant and just have to figure

out the course of action to get me to a place where that brilliance is expressed. (I just got chills when I wrote that!)

In any event, it may seem that you are stuck and that failure looms all around you. Consider

this may just be an indication that you need a change of environment, friends, a job or develop a

course of action. People like Ab Lincoln, Einstein and Mozart "seemed" to be failures at

everything expect for the thing where their brilliance was able to be expressed. Don't give up!

Be honest, let go the fear and make those dreams happen. They are no different than me... Or you for that matter!

When I'm famous you'll remember these lines and chalk it up to legend! Hope it encourages!

We all know that sequin is making a major comeback this Fall and with the sudden passing of Michael Jackson even Harper's Baazar recently paid a fashion homage.

I'm an edgy/ecclectic dresser and I ADORE vintage so this piece will be worked into my wardrobe for YEARS to come... The seller is a doll and she offers a store especially for us plus sized gals!

With international shipping and cost of jacket it still came to under $80. (I've seen most variations of this blazer $100 and up!)

Plus Sized Fashion - Denmark Style

Chica's and Chico's!

Anyone who knows me can attest that I'm all about high fashion, quality and style. European fashion, at this point, seems to be the only group that consistently gets it right... Even doing plus.

As a curvy fashionista I've noticed that the plus size market is pretty bare. My encounters with plus sized clothes, in general, seems to either they are WAY too expensive for the quality and versatility of the piece, proportionately wrong (as if all plus sized girls are larger EVERYWHERE) or just plain cheap and ugly.

There is a LARGE section of the plus sized market missing - pun intended - primarily women ages 18-35 who are edgy, super stylish, fashion forward, entrepreneurial or any combination of the above mentioned. I can admit the market has come a LONG way with lines like Torrid, Lane Bryant, Old Navy Woman and now Forever 21 but the choices are still scarce.

And with most pieces being $100 or under you get your money's worth at least 20 times over!

Style Essential - CONFIDENCE!!!

There is something innately beautiful about a confident woman. It's inborn, inbred and comes from within.

Never have I been an advocate for unending self indulgence, arrogance or pride. Actually the afore mentioned are characteristics I despise. (Ironic huh? Since I absolutely LOVE fashion, style and all things beauty!) ..... What I do believe in is confidence.

The consistent meaning of innate is something one was born with or learned very early on (as a form of upbringing). For some of us, it was learned particularly early on that something was lacking. For some teen and early adult years proved to be challenging because of ones weight, height, skills (or lack of such), grades in school or being style challenged. Whatever your story, I believe there is certainly hope!

Without sounding to preachy or delving into the deep physiological issues that are human, I want to say that when you believe in yourself you give others the freedom to also do such. Picture this - Chanel fashion show, fabulous clothes, edgy accessories, luxe handbags. Makeup and hair artistic to the max and models doing what models do..... Then there is one model, beautiful actually, and she doesn't strut her stuff down the runway. She walks rather awkwardly and shyly down the runway head hung low. When she does look up she blushes and giggles nervously at the crowd tugging on her dress all the way.

HOW WACK WOULD THAT BE ??? The media would not only have a field day with the creative director for allowing that to happen at a professional runway show, but can you imagine the poor model? That would either be the end of her runway career or she'd come back after a LONG hiatus doing exclusive interviews about how she had to do some soul searching and learn to love who she was all along.

To me, poor body image and low self esteem are at epidemic levels here in the US and from what I've read, studied and researched also in other parts of the world. My belief is that good body image and self esteem have little to do with actual weight/size and much more with how one sees themselves.

Queen Latifah is a perfect example of this. She is a black woman in predominantly white Hollywood who is not just a plus size but, from the looks of it, over a size 16. She is of medium skin tone, started off as a rapper and has been a variety of sizes. Yet she is widely embraced, usually on the best dressed lists and you hardly ever see Queen Latifah on the cover or inside any tabloid magazine bashing her weight or size. I'm sure part of it is that she came into the industry as a larger woman but I feel a huge part of it is the fact that she walks with so much confidence. She is sure of herself and it shows. She is unapologetic about her size and doesn't let it stop her from doing ANYTHING!!! I've heard so many men (the same men who openly bash fat women) say how sexy she is, that they'd date her and that her confidence is the most attractive thing.

Real life example - I've been really embracing my natural hair. It's super curly with brown and caramel highlights. It's a big curly fro. Cute! LOL! Anyway... For a long time, though I loved it, I didn't really embrace it. I was kind of like that Chanel model! It was awkward for me every time I wore it out. So, I'd kind of walk with my head down afraid someone wouldn't like it or think it was too big. This year started a total overhaul of life for me. Within the last week alone I've noticed how many honks I've gotten, how many random people have said they loved my hair and how good I've felt about myself. No walking with my head down, taking the time in the morning to get fab and bam! Just like that positive feedback.

Ladies (and some gents) - Never let anyone make you feel bad about yourself. If you need to change something change it but don't feel bad along the way! Remember if you allow outside influences to build your esteem, those same influences have the power to break it down. Get it from inside!

Check out the October issue of Harper's Bazaar! I couldn't be more happy to see my girl JJ on the cover! I've been a back and forth fan of Janet through the years (peek time for me was Rhythm Nation!) but seeing her poise and grace, through the very public, loss of her brother made me a Janet for LIFE fan! Can you imagine? She has so many characteristics I admire. She is determined, seems to lead a very quiet life (well as quiet as you can get being a Jackson), - You don't see Janet at every party in Hollywood - is a style chameleon sexy! I want to be like Janet when I grow up! LOL!

Hello my fellow upgraders, fashionistas and lovers of change.

As of today I am happy to report that I am down two dress down... Yay! Well on the bottom at least. (Wink)

Okay so I really am going to be uploading some video and pic's soon so that I can keep track of my journey. I am 24 pounds down and have no recent pic's of what I looked like at that weight. (But since this is not the first time I've allowed myself to ballon to a weight I NEVER want to go back too! I can dig up some old "before" pic's).

I couldn't figure out on which blog to post this (Journey of Ra or My First Love) so I'll post it on both. Why? Because my journey IS the journey to my First Love. For me, the two are synonamous. There is no me without Him. ....... Anyhooo....

I have been reading some thought provoking Christian blogs and some things have stuck out to me. In one Sis. Heather was talking about the different seasons we may be in during our Christian lives. I have been in/going through a couple! Or ending one and entering another.

The point? The point is that almost always the way we approach a chapter of life, a season, a relationship, a thought is based on perceptions!

It's the old antage of the cup being half full or half empty. How you see the cup, is going to determine what you do... Your mood, your attitude...

For so many years I stayed focused (and I mean fixated!) on what a screw up I was. Yes! You read that right! I was _ age and didn't have _. ___age and didn't have ____. Started Deborah Estelle the company and only had ____. Why are my friends married and I'm not? Why am I renting and ___ just bought a house. You know she is 5 years younger right??? Why does it seem like she can just get come to company X and get promoted with no degree and yet they said I'm too high fashion??? What? My hair is too big? What???

Perception! Perception! If I were viewing correctly what I would have seen is this:

Dear darling daughter! I love you very much. I know you've prayed for many things. Some of them you only THINK you want! Thank ME that I am able to do above all you can think or imagine. You're ambitious and that's okay... but TOO much ambition can get in the way of a very fulfilling relationship with ME. See? I know you... I've known you before the foundations of the world. I am trying to help you learn of you... The real you but your eyes... They are fixated on the wrong things... You have the wrong view... perception. Because of that, blessings are passing you by and you don't even recognize it. Seasons that are to be fulfilled, lived and enjoyed you are wasting... wasting while you're wishing for what you don't have yet. Don't you see what I've ALREADY done? You are alive! You are healthy! You have ideas. I KNOW you have ideas! You have support in places you've yet to embrace. Love in places you've yet to embrace but you are looking at what you DON'T have. Your job? The one you have now? You asked me for it as you felt it would open up doors to the world... Literally! Did I not do it? Give it? Grant it? How have you used it yet? Do you know why the ruler was so angry at the servant who buried his talent? Because it showed a disregaurd for what he'd been given. Blessed with. UPDATE! I AM DOWN A WHOLE DRESS SIZE! YAY! WELL YAY ORAL SURGERY AND SOME BETTER EATING HABITS! I HAVE A WHOLE BAG OF CLOTHES TO TAKE TO THE TAILORS AND CAN FIT ABOUT 10 PIECES IN MY CLOSET THAT I WAS BUSTING OUT OF IN THE SUMMER INCLUDING TWO PAIRS OF BOOTS THAT I LOVE THAT NOW ZIP ALL THE WAY UP MY CALVES! I SAY HOORAY FOR PROGRESS! * VIDEO UPDATES, AND PROGRESS PHOTOS TO COME SOON!

I choose this photo as this woman looks similar to me... Or the me I will be once I've completed my weight loss journey.

In the next couple months I plan on getting a HD video camera, a really good camera and a good computer so that I can document my journey on Blogspot and Youtube. My own personal reality TV series.

In my quiet time I'm learning so much, mainly to take my time, not give up and keep building upon the smaller habits.

This should be fun! Weight loss is not just a physical journey, but also one of discipline, courage and MUCH pressing forward but if you stick with it you'll be amazed! Pluck away just one pound at a time!

UPADATE 09/01/2009- Progress! Progress!

UPDATE SEPT 1ST 2--9. SO... Surgery didn't go exactly as planned. However it's over so we have made some BIG progress... Have to go get stiches removed and then off to my ortho for just 6 more months of treatment! Thank God! ;)

God is so merciful all the time... My oral surgeon did something they almost NEVER do... Do the surgery with 1/4 money in hand...Yup! You heard me right! My God is MORE than able!

So! Houston, we are making progress! This weekend will mark the beginning of the end... With braces at least! LOL!

After MUCH delay (due to my own failure to plan properly) I will be getting my oral surgery. I should only have about 6 months of treatment after this and a new slimer body at the other end!

I really do love being me! All the hard work will pay off!

If I Die... Let me Die!

To be honest I have no idea when I am going to die. Who does? Even if one was ill there is no 100% certainty in a doctors diagnosis. After all there is someone bigger than we who has the final say.

There is a strange paradox in the above titled statement. My beliefs give way to the practice of dying daily. Alas! Dying daily... No easy task.

The paradox, you see, is I'm talking about life and LIVING. Life and what you make of it. Initially I thought of titling the post "I'm Going To Die In 5 Years" but after typing it felt it a little eerie and morbid, especially since I don't know that for certain. The other thing is I believe in speaking life to my life and don't want any words I don't mean (unintended) flying around the universe looking for a way to be fulfilled. Especially when there are other things I would MUCH rather come to pass...

The train of thought for that title was "what IF I die in 5 years? 2 years? 1?" Of course I don't want too but the question to ask is would I be proud of my life if I did? The contributions of made for God? To humanity? Justice to my talent? Hmmmm....

I was reading Dear Abby today and a father described his daughters life as being "wasted" because of her lack of achievements and she was 33. Wow!!! Gets me thinking... I don't have very many years of my 20's left and I wouldn't want my life to be viewed as wasted at 33! LOL!

Gives me an extra push today in lieu of so many pressing life changes. I have on paper what I want, shoot I've had it on paper for years! But now is the time... Some things are just better seen. I'm from the Show Me state but hopefully you can start thinking what you'd focus on if you had a suspicion you'd be gone in 5 years.

What would you change? What would be your focus? What wouldn't matter? I feel we should live our lives with these things in mind, not so much being our focus but a forefront reminder that we are NOT immortal can cause us to live life that way.

Do some soul searching and take action!

The Journey Begins

Not knowing where to start, I open up to you. It's been a long time coming!

See? I have a dream. An entrepreneurial dream of becoming an writer (magazine, author, songwriter), a singer and to eventually run my own media company.

BIG DREAMS! WASTED TIME! FOCUSED DREAMS! USING TIME!

We'll call it The Journey Of Ra. I choose this title because my nick name is Ra Ra and a lot of people have shortened my name to Ra. So it's just insight into my journey.

There are days when I may be silent as I talk to God and reflect inwardly. There are times I may be too weak or focused to tell... Maybe days of consecration of DOING and you'll see me on the other side.

This blog may seem like random rantings but they are not. It's a journey of balance and life, as it should be, coming together. I don't believe in evolution, I believe in transformation.

Feel privileged. I'm letting you into my world hoping that as I grow as a woman, as a brand as a Christian it will give you inspiration to grow too.

With any journey there is soul searching, transition and lots of change. Sometimes I won't hit the mark but I press. Some days I'll be emotional but I press. The end result is almost always beautiful if you stay the course. So I'll stay the course believing in the end I will have crossed the street and that He will have traded beauty for ashes.

UPDATE! MAY 27TH 2009 - I've ordered the Kazya Maxi and the Floral Eyelit dress. Beautiful! For a inexpensive brand, the quality is wonderful! The challenge is going to be for the busty women. I would recommend going up one size in the eyelit dress. The maxi is pretty true to size. My size is a 1X but I think I'll get a 2X in both and have them taken in.

Accentuate Your Fabulous Five Features!!!

Here is post #2 about your fab five. Once you've identified them you've got to find ways to accentuate them. Your fab five may be different from you friends. SO PLEASE NO COMPARING!!!

Something I have noticed about really fierce women is that they don't make a habit of comparing. They are at peace with themselves and are more concerned with how to BE their personal best that if you asked them they'd say "who are the Jones'?"

There is nothing wrong with admiring the stylishness of another woman or taking style tips from her. The trouble comes in trying to BE her. What makes any beautiful woman so fly is that she's found what works for her. Channel you OWN fierceness. DO THE WORK GIRL! Don't be lazy!

Below are some style tips to help you bring out that inner fly girl!

START WITH A GUIDE - As the self proclaimed research queen, I believe a lot of style frustration can be avoided if you do your homework! Do research to find out the basics. What types of pieces work for your shape? What types of hairstyles go well with your face shape? What type of skin do you have? In the long run knowing these things could save you a lot of time and money! * A personal stylist or beauty consultant is an excellent place to start. You can learn personalized tips from them to help you look fabulous! Also try free resources like online articles or style tips. You could try a search on clothing that works for different shapes and take notes. Fashion weeklies like People and In Style also tend to offer style tips and feature clothing that translate well into real life. If all else fails, consult a stylish friend! *

WORK WITH YOUR SKIN/HAIR/BODY NOT AGAINST IT- Have you ever seen a woman who looks really uncomfortable with her clothing, makeup or hair look? Know a woman who always looks like she is trying too hard? Not attractive! IMO, the most beautiful among us have taken time to learn themselves and embrace it. (See first tip above) When you see them you just see a look that is seamless and flows. They are not fighting, on a humid summer day, for their curly hair to be straight! They don't have on a dress that isn't "belly friendly" when they have a gut. (Sorry ladies!) They are not wearing foundation 2 shades lighter than their skin because they "used" to be that complexion. They just let it flow. Relax. When you embrace yourself, the WAY today not after you loose that 20 pounds, you are sure to look and feel better. Embracing your unique features and shape is one of the first steps to true beauty!!!

GOOD UNDERGARMENTS CAN MAKE OR BREAK AN OUTFIT! (UPDATE SEPT 10TH 2009) - How, ohhh, how could I leave this one out??? (Dramatic right? Wink) I've been adoring the show How to Look Good Naked and I must tell you that the right fitting bra's, panties or shapers take these women from drab to fab! Have you ever noticed how you or someone else looks when you have the WRONG undergarments with a good outfit? In addition the right foundational pieces can literally inches off your waist, hips, breast, thighs and bum! Yay! Good undergarments produce smooth lines and can demolish the appearance of back fat! As Gok would say "No surgery required!" Ha! I love it!

LEARN INSIDER TIPS AND TRICKS! This goes kind of hand and hand with the two listed above tips but I'd like to expound. For a long time us "regular" folk sat in awe of how various women within the beauty, fashion and entertainment industry looked so flawless. Since we are now in the age of blogging, tell all books, YouTube tutorials and various other how- to books, articles and videos we can learn various techniques (both large and small) to take us from a place of average to head turner! Take advantage! If you desire, there are a number of enhancing things you can do to always have your fab 5 looking great! * If you do have curly hair will frizz in humidity, be easy on yourself and wear a wig or weave instead! If you have an event and want to spice up your beautiful eyes, add some natural (or dramatic) looking lashes. *

DEVELOP A PERSONAL STYLE UNIFORM... OR NOT? - Years ago, I read an article that gave this tip. If I find it I will post it! The gist is when you find a piece that works well for you to develop a uniform getting variations of the same piece. * I.E- If you love the sex appeal and versatility of a wrap dress buy several. (Try one in black, one in print, one with cap sleeves, one with 3/4 length sleeves, one with a back cut out.) With different shoes/accessories you can make the pieces look different. If you love how pointy toe shoes look ; get one pair that are red, one in black, one some funky fun color and try pointed toe shoes in sling back and flats.

* On a side note, I just found this article on Sassychic.com It says NOT to develop a uniform. http://www.ssasychic.com/fashion/how-to-create-a-signature-style/I guess it just depends on your preference and lifestyle. A more conservative person working in a more conservative environment might benefit well from a uniform. The point of this tip is to get you thinking on pieces that you like and that work well for you! If A line pieces work well with your body you may look at A line pieces in different styles.

DON'T BE AFRAID TO EXPERIMENT - To develop your personal style you'll have to try different things. It is a process! In addition to learning what "types" of clothing, makeup or accessories work for you figure, skin type, ect ; you'll begin to see your personal preferences. Again a large part of looking good is feeling good and having the look you choose (makeup; hair; accessories; clothing) translate well into your lifestyle. If you don't you don't feel confident or comfortable it will show! You also don't want to get stuck in a style rut. Even after feel you know your signature style, never be afraid to explore looks outside of that. Over time we change, our lifestyles may change and your presences may also. Your "uniform" is just a foundational point. If you opt not to develop a uniform, use your research as a starting point for style development.

IT'S ALL BEEN DONE BEFORE! Yes hun even your look! There is nothing new under the sun and what's hot now is just a variation of something that's been hot in the past. Never let this fact limit you from trying a new look. Being different is okay... But going out of your way to be different just because you fear looking similar to somebody else often spells style disaster!

PERSONAL STYLE INCLUDES PERSONAL GROOMING!!!! I know! I know! This should be obvious right? But sadly enough this isn't always the case! Developing a grooming and skincare routine that fit your schedule may be the best option to make sure you are keeping it all together. Can anyone say beauty day? Once you get the basics of your style down pat, don't forget to keep it up. We often start falling off because we are so busy. Guilty! For some picking one day a week to do all our maintenance will work and for some we may have to break our beauty routine into various days. Whatever works! Just don't raise your arms on the red carpet of life with hairy underarms and a sleeveless dress... Or don't walk out the house in a fabulous dress and slingback pumps with dry heels! Ewwwwhhh! That's just gross!

DON'T FORGET YOUR FIGURE!!! No, it isn't all about being a size two or really a size anything! But, why not work to be the best you possibly can be? Don't you care about how you well you are taking care of your temple? I would encourage every woman to get real about her weight, health and level of fitness. What are you eating? Is it fueling your body or helping to kill you slowly? Ouch! It hurts! Me too! Please note that I am an advocate for self love at WHATEVER WEIGHT OR SIZE... but that doesn't mean we can't work to be healthier. Get in shape. It'll makes a difference in how you look, feel and are perceived. Sorry it's true! I for one know I feel better when I am eating well and exercising. And yes please note that a by product of eating right and exercising often will be weight loss. Love yourself regardless but don't be afraid to love yourself enough to make changes if need be. HAVE FUN! Ladies there is no right or wrong way to style! We don't all have the same 5 fabulous features to highlight. There is no quick fix and in my book there should be no duplicating someone else's look without finding some way to make it your own. Take your time trying different things and developing your own personal style bible. Have fun with it! Remember if you don't quite get a look right the first time learn from the experience. Try again next time with different products or techniques.

Last note - This is your life chica!!!! You want to be fabulous at all times! That that is why I keep stressing personal style development and learning your OWN fabulous 5! Who wants to be the girl who is only hot stuff when she has an event to go too? How wack is that? Personally, I want to feel sexy walking around my house (and I live alone!) Never change who you are for another person. Always love yourself! Whatever new step or journey you take in life should be prompted by something inside of you!

Find Your Fabulous Five Features!!!

Can you say that with me five times fast? Find Your Fab Five... Find Your Fab Five... Find Your Fab Five... Find Your Fab... Okay... Okay... enough already! LOL!

I believe that we each have something that is beautiful and unique about us. In my book the key to exceptional beauty is learning to work, work, WORK what you've got! Michelle Obama anyone?

Sure! By nature there are some people who are just breathtakingly gorgeous! Straight out of bed and BAM!!! GORGEOUS! (But have you ever noticed that even these women spend time on themselves?)

For the rest of us fabulous chicas, it may require a little more work to put our best self forward. It's less about makeup and hair (per se). It's really about learning how to work what YOU'VE got in a way comfortable to you!

My dad's ex girlfriend used to say that some people have to work harder than others to be get a B but that shouldn't stop you from studying to get one! (she said this in regards to school but still I think it applies here) .

Ready to be fabulous? Find your Fab Five!

Stand in the mirror and identify what you feel to be your five best features. Not what your sister, boyfriend, friends or mother think. What do you feel is your best?)

Make a mental or physical note. These are your fab five!

Decide how you can accentuate these features.

Make a conscious effort to highlight these features EVERYDAY before leaving the house.

*** Developing a personal hair, beauty and style routine takes time. You'll learn a lot by trail and error. Don't beat yourself up if you have one (or more than one) bad day. Just make a decision that you are worth the time and effort and that it is important for you to spend time to be your best everyday!!!!*** Remember to accentuate your fab 5 in practical ways. Sometimes it's as simple as getting a really good moisturizer that will last all day on those beautiful legs! If you can count your smile in your fab 5, be sure to use a whitening toothpaste and floss to ensure your best smile is forward.

Please note. This journey is new to me. As I stated, I am a woman who through life experiences has overcome poor body image and low self esteem issues. It is for this reason I am so passionate about sharing with other women how to look and more importantly to FEEL fabulous! I feel I have the capabilities to become an expert but have not yet mastered my own look fully enough to be considered one. When I get there I'll let you know! LOL! In the meantime enjoy my writings. Hopefully it will spark something in you that will inspire you to become your BEST self!

Hey Ladies!

Personal beauty and style has always been something near and dear to my heart. Since I'm a woman who has overcome low self esteem and poor body image I feel it necessary to share my story with you, as well as what I've learned, to help you guys live a better life.

Sure, it's not all about style and beauty but you know what? I'm a firm believer that when you LOOK better you FEEL better.

Have you ever thought that when people FEEL poorly about themselves it reflects outwardly? Hmmmmmm.... So the next time you say it's not all about "looks" remember that you display a "look" to the world everyday! What do you want to say? What do you want people to notice about you by how you are dressed? How well does the scent you wear reflect your personality and lifestyle? When people see you what assessment would they make about the way that you carry yourself?

Do want to express confidence? Or do you want to express an attitude of not caring? In a professional setting do you want people to believe you are competent to preform a certain job duty or do you want to express incompetence.

Whether we believe so or not, impressions mean a LOT! It can be the difference between getting a promotion or not, getting a date or not, being viewed as confident or not. When people don't know us, they judge us on how we look and what we give off that radiates from inside.

I am one that believes in working on the whole package (we'll talk about that more in later posts!) but today I want you to read a post by fellow blogger Noir Expose titled Upgrade Yourself.

I am at a point in my life where I want my inside to be beautiful! The things that I feel don't reflect well who I REALLY am have got to go! Have got to be dealt with! I also want my outside to match that beautiful inside.

Loose weight, get inspired and feel great! For FREE!!!

Hey Guys,

I wanted to share a site I love with you all! It's called Spark People. Think Weight Waters online or E-diets online meets Facebook... for free! Whooohooo!

DID I SAY I LOVE SPARKPEOPLE? The great thing about it, besides it being totally free, is that you can choose the method you loose weight but have access to menus, can track your progress, make a "spark page" (it's like a facebook page!), track exercise, join groups based on y0ur interests, blog... really anything!

I've found people I know, fellow bloggers' from blogger.com and have joined a couple of groups that help me to stay on track. It's great. What's even more interesting is that there are a lot of people who post their journey from start to finish (yes people JUST LIKE YOU) and it's super inspiring to see someone who went from 400 pounds go to 200! Or someone go from 375 to 150! Awesome! In addition, Spark encourages loosing weight the RIGHT way, through diet and exercise! While there is no big brother type stuff going on, you'll see that people who have lost a good deal of weight and are keeping it off will tell you they did it the slow and steady way.

Whether you want to loose a great deal of weight, loose 10 pounds or just keep in shape there are tools for all weight loss levels.

It is less stress on the body! Plus who wants to loose 60 pounds to gain it back plus some? Not me!

It's been said that insanity is doing the same things over and over expecting different results.

Who really needs that for their life? I have a lot of challenges in my life at this time with equally exciting opportunities. ........ My point?

Well, my point is that you have to learn to break through your challenges in order to get to the opportunities. Nothing in life worth having comes easy and as much as our microwave society would like to tell us otherwise it's true!

Now... Let me clarify. (I have my own personal motivations for stating this but bear with me.) I'm only talking about fighting for what's WORTH fighting for! Sometimes because we are so delusional or unhealthy, we fight for opportunities (and people) who we just shouldn't. We aren't thinking clearly enough to realize that what (or who) we are fighting for isn't realistic, healthy or beneficial to us. We get so caught up in the "illusion" of what could be (or what we could have) that we push what's real away in favor of a dream... That often times becomes a nightmare.
We push away "reality" in favor of "what could be" and often end up disappointed.

So the opportunities I'm chasing are the ones that I can achieve in a healthy way that will be fulfilling. They don't even have to be awe inspiring? Why? That often fades... But if my life is built on solid ground than the realization of dreams will be well worth it.

Stop being insane! When you have something you want, DO what it takes to achieve it. Research to make sure it's the best option for you and work harder than you ever have to achieve your goal. Years later, you'll be glad you did!
